Professional Nursing Care Committee
The mission of the PNCC is to act as a liaison between nurses and management on global patient care issues. The PNCC provides mentorship and support to Unit Based Nurse Practice Committees and is responsible for overseeing education funds stipulated in the contract. The PNCC also interviews and maintains a list of nurse candidates for appointment to hospital committees
The AURN Professional Nursing Care Committee was established by contract article 64. It consists of 6 staff nurses elected by the bargaining unit.
All nurses in the bargaining unit are eligible and encouraged to enter PNCC elections, which are held each spring.

PNCC Members: Back row left to right, Rahmana (Eva) Wiest, Louise Darling, Sarah Mittelman. Front row, left to right, Basilia Basin, Janis Olson and Katy Cooper.
Unit Reps
AURN Unit Representatives are nurses identified in each unit or clinic who are familiar with the contract and act as a resource to other nurses in their unit.
Unit Representatives are a conduit of information for AURN members. They "keep the temperature" of the unit/clinic and may pass on concerns to the AURN Executive Board for discussion. The Executive Board may take the issue to the AURN/Mgmt Cooperative to present these concerns to management and pursue resolution.
We need Unit Representatives in every unit. No experience necessary! We'll give you what you need to be a resource for other nurses. See the unit rep list here .
Greivance Committee
The Grievance Committee consults with our ONA Labor Representative in handling grievances, interpreting the contract, and representing nurses in disciplinary issues.
Members: Harold Fleshman, Susanna Rhodes, Louise Darling, Katy Cooper, Ursula White, Julie Jorgensen and Marietta Sisca.
UBNPC's: Taking Charge of our Practice
UBNPC is the acronym for "Unit-Based Nurse Practice Committee", existing on every unit, that is authorized by Article 71 of our ONA/OHSU Contract:
"Each unit is responsible to develop a Unit Based Nursing Practice Committee (UBNPC) which shall consist of staff nurses and management representatives. The UBNPC is responsible for making recommendations and accomplishing tasks related to:
a. Unit goals related to nursing practice;
b. The development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and modification of the unit staffing plan. The unit manager will actively engage the UNBPC in these processes throughout the year. On an annual basis and prior to the OHSU budget cycle, a UBNPC meeting agenda item shall include discussion of the unit staffing plan for the coming fiscal year. Data within each unit relevant to the unit’s budget process and safe patient care shall be used for discussion of the plan. On a quarterly basis, the UBNPC will conduct a review of the staffing plan’s performance and make recommendations for plan adjustments to the unit manager.
c. Current contract requirements; and/or
d. Other tasks agreed to or assigned by the Employer"
UBNPC's are also charged with the task of deciding -- within contract guidelines -- how scheduling is to be carried out and, in the cases where units have voluntary on-call programs, how those programs will take shape.
