About The ONA Convention
The ONA Convention is just around the corner! This year’s convention has been condensed into a half day of educational opportunities and a full day House of Delegates on April 16 & 17 at Lane Community College in Eugene. AURN will reimburse any delegate for all travel expenses incurred. If you are interested in becoming an ONA delegate for District 52 contact Courtney Niebel at Niebel@oregonrn.org today.
What is District 52?
The Oregon Nurses Association is divided into geo-political districts, each of which elect delegates to attend the ONA Annual Convention. At Convention each spring, delegates from every district around the state discuss and debate policy issues about nursing practice, healthcare, union activities, finances, and a myriad of ONA issues. Out of this "House of Delegates" arise policies and resolutions that give direction to the ONA Board of Directors. This is our democratic process in action on a state-wide level. District 52 is the district number assigned to the Association of University Registered Nurses.
How do we elect our Delegates?
In the early spring of each year, a notice is sent out to AURN nurses announcing the opening of nominations. Every AURN member in good standing is eligible to nominate for a delegate position. Nurses interested in being delegates to convention should complete the nomination form to be placed on the ballot, which is then sent to the entire AURN membership for an election vote. District 52 is usually assigned about 30 delegate positions.
Do Delegates get paid to attend Convention?
District 52 Delegates receive a stipend as reimbursement for their Convention Registration Fee, room fees, plus a small stipend for meals, etc. The AURN Executive Board votes on this amount each spring.
Can I put in for days off from work for Convention?
Convention generally offers continuing education for nurses. Many nurses apply to their UBNPC's for funds to attend, as well as for paid education days.
